On the Blackbird’s Watch.
From my perch in the branches, I watched them gather.
The drums sounded steady and deep, drawing them into a circle around the fire. Hands clapped, feet moved, their steps falling into rhythm.
They moved together, quiet at first, then stronger. Voices rose, blending with the beat. They weren’t separate tonight. They were one, shaping something unseen.
A voice rose above the drums: “May the rhythm of love and hope guide us as one into a bright new year.”
The circle shifted, hands joined, movements slow and deliberate. Each step pressed an intention into the ground, and each breath sent it higher.
I stayed still, watching. Their energy filled the air, clear and steady. The flames moved with them as if answering. When the drums faded, they stood in silence. Something had changed. Their purpose lingered in the space around them.
I opened my wings and leaped into the night. Their rhythm and intent moved with me, rising toward the first light of the new year.
